Our approach is all about finding and fixing the source of your discomfort, rather than just masking the symptoms. We use the Sacro Occipital Technique to help balance the relationship between your spine and your pelvis. We also recognise that physical pain isn't always just about bones and muscles; the Neuro Emotional Technique helps us identify where lingering stress might be causing your body to stay stuck in a cycle of tension. Finally, the Activator for gentle, high-precision adjustments.
The following questions and answers aim to demystify these treatment methods and show you how a more integrated look at your health can lead to lasting results.
Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)
Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) is a comprehensive, gentle and innovative technique of Chiropractic. It is so named because of the relationship between the Sacrum (base of the spine) and the Occiput (base of the skull).
The pelvis forms the foundational support of the human skeleton. It supports the upper body right up to the skull, and enables us to transfer our weight to our legs. The spine holds our body upright, supports all of our organs and provides anchor points for our muscles. It also protects our nervous system.
One of the functions of the sacrum is to pump Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF) from the base of the spine back up the spinal canal to the brain and throughout the nervous system. CSF acts as the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord.
The nervous system controls our body, and can only function normally when our structures are balanced and our pelvis is stable. SOT chiropractic care facilitates this balance for optimal health.

Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)
Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a mind-body technique that uses a methodology of finding and removing neurological imbalances related to the physiology of unresolved stress. NET is a tool that can help improve many behavioural and physical conditions.
Simply NET is a stress reduction tool which helps combat the effects of unrelenting daily stress. It is often the case that unresolved physical symptoms such as recurring back pain or headaches etc can be helped by using NET in combination and complimentary to other more structural techniques. It is often the missing piece in supporting a full recovery.
The ONE research foundation’s mission is to provide scientific research to advance mind body health care, especially NET. If you would further reading on this dynamic just check the links.
A comprehensive explanation for patients and all you need to know about NET is provided in the link above. If you click onto the play button there is a patient video explaining NET.
Activator Adjustment (AMT)
The Activator adjustment is used in combination with and complimentary to SOT and other structural techniques. The Activator itself is a small spring-loaded, hand-held mechanical adjusting instrument that gives a quick, low-force impulse to a specific location.
The Activator Method Technique itself is a chiropractic treatment method created by Arlan Fuhr DC as an alternative to manual manipulation of the spine and extremities. There are two key advantages of an Activator instrument-assisted treatment. The first is based on the speed of the device. The tool is so quick that the body’s muscles are less likely to tense in response, and resist the treatment.
The lack of muscle resistance may facilitate the treatment effectiveness. The second is that the applied force is localized and does not add any additional torque or bending movement to the joint.
The device itself is classified as a mechanical force manual assisted (MFMA) instrument. It is generally regarded as more gentle and specific chiropractic adjustment.
