Emotional Freedom Techniques
What is EFT Tapping?
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) — often referred to as “tapping” — is a gentle mind-body technique that combines elements of cognitive therapy with acupressure. It involves lightly tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a particular thought, emotion, or physical sensation.
EFT is based on principles drawn from traditional Chinese medicine and modern psychology. The tapping points correspond with meridian pathways used in acupuncture, but instead of needles, we use our fingertips — making it a simple, accessible self-regulation tool.
How Does EFT Work?
When we experience stress, trauma, or strong emotion, the nervous system can become dysregulated. This may show up as anxiety, overwhelm, muscle tension, digestive issues, sleep disturbances, or chronic pain.
EFT works by:
- Bringing awareness to the specific issue
- Verbally acknowledging the emotion or belief
- Gently tapping on acupressure points to help calm the nervous system
This process can help reduce the intensity of the emotional response and support the body in shifting out of “fight or flight” into a more regulated state.
One quote to keep in mind:
“Look within. Within is the fountain of good, and it will ever bubble up, if thou wilt ever dig.”
Marcus Aurelius
What Can EFT Help With?
Many people use EFT to support anxiety and stress, emotional overwhelm, trauma responses, performance anxiety and limiting beliefs
While EFT is not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment, it can be a powerful complementary tool to support nervous system regulation and emotional resilience.
